An Insight into Early Music from the New World- Mezzo Ensemble Concert

The discovery of the New World by Europeans led to encounters between entirely different musical cultures.

European music was enriched with new rhythms and harmonies, as missionaries incorporated local elements into religious music to connect with native peoples.
In the 16th and 17th centuries, European settlers in the Americas developed a vibrant cultural life, rooted in Old World music but deeply influenced by New World characteristics. Indigenous peoples and settlers alike composed new music that bridged both worlds, and soon, this spirit captivated Europe as well.

In this program, Ensemble Mezzo, in collaboration with Ensemble Naya and guest musicians, brings Israeli audiences a festive blend of South American rhythms and joy from the Renaissance and Baroque—love songs, drinking songs, folk tunes, and devotional music.
