One of Johann Sebastian Bach’s greatest masterpieces, the St John Passion (Johannes-Passion), stands among the supreme achievements of sacred music of all time.
Written for choir, soloists and orchestra, the work recounts the Passion story according to the Gospel of John with extraordinary dramatic power, combining moments of profound human suffering with spiritual grandeur and musical transcendence. Bach creates a richly expressive world of stirring choruses, deeply emotional arias and intimate chorales, moving between theatrical drama and inward contemplation.
Performed by the Collegium Tel Aviv Vocal Ensemble, the Barrocada Orchestra and soloists, under the direction of conductor Yishai Steckler, the work will come vividly to life in the unique acoustics of Kiryat Ye’arim Church.
This is a rare encounter with Bach at the height of his creative powers.
