An Insight into “A Day in Venice, A Night in Naples” Concert

A colourful and exhilarating musical journey into the heart of Italy — from the canals, palaces and churches of Venice to the streets, nights and fiery rhythms of Naples

In the first part of the concert, we will enter the magnificent world of Baroque Italy: passionate madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi, moments of Italian Jewish sacred music by Salamone Rossi, and virtuosic works by Merula and Vivaldi.
This is the Italy of the 17th century — polyphonic, dramatic, spiritual and sensual — where words, voices and harmonies are transformed into living musical theatre.

From the elegance of Venice, the programme continues to another side of Italy: more popular, warmer and more uninhibited.
Gondolier songs, tarantellas, love melodies and Neapolitan songs will bring the spirit of the Italian streets into the church — filled with rhythm, humour, emotion and joie de vivre.

At the heart of the concert are the distinctive voices of countertenor Yaniv d’Or and soprano Ya’ala Avital, joined by Ensemble Mezzo, under the musical direction of Doret Florentin, and the Jerusalem Vocal Consort.
Together, they will lead the audience between sacred and secular, palace and city square, refined Baroque music and an exuberant folk celebration.

This concert begins in the golden light of Venice and concludes in a passionate Neapolitan night — an Italian celebration of voices, instruments, dance and imagination.

Concert duration: Approximately 75 minutes, without intermission.
