A concert bringing together two generations of the Bach family — Johann Sebastian Bach and his son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach — through one of the grandest forms of sacred music: the Magnificat.

At the heart of the programme is J. S. Bach’s monumental Magnificat, a radiant and inspired masterpiece that brings together choir, soloists and orchestra in a magnificent display of polyphonic richness, drama and energy.

Alongside it, the programme will feature Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s Magnificat, Wq 215, a work poised at the crossroads between the late Baroque and the emerging Classical style. Its musical language is bold, emotional and distinctly theatrical.
