The Israel Philharmonic Brass Quintet

A vibrant, colourful and high-energy concert bringing together the brilliant sound of the Israel Philharmonic Brass Quintet and the vocal power and rich harmonies of the Sonora Ensemble — on a musical journey from the jazz and swing traditions of America to some of the greatest classics of Israeli song.

Throughout the programme, infectious swing rhythms and the gleaming sound of brass are interwoven with rich choral singing. American classics including “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny,” “St. James Infirmary” and “Tiger Rag” bring to the stage the energy, rhythm and brilliance of the jazz and brass-band traditions.

From there, the journey continues to some of the most beloved and influential composers in Israeli music. Songs by Yoni Rechter — including “Haratzinut Hi Mimeni Vehala,” “Shir Ahava Standarti,” “Hashir Al Ha’aretz” and “Atur Mitzchech” — are presented in arrangements for voices and brass that highlight the harmonic sophistication, rhythmic vitality and distinctive musical colours of his work.

The programme also features songs by Miki Gavrielov, including “Ohev Lihyot Babayit” and “Shir Mispar 8,” as well as songs by Matti Caspi — “Kshe’Elohim Amar” and “Noah.” Other beloved songs, including “Hayamim Ha’arukim Ha’atzuvim,” “Lemi She’eino Ma’amin” and “Sahaki Sahaki,” receive fresh vocal interpretations, performed either a cappella or together with the brass quintet.

This is an exhilarating encounter between choir and brass, American swing and vocal harmony, New Orleans and the Israeli musical soundtrack — a celebration of rhythm, voices and music in blue and white.
