In an intimate concert at Kiryat Ye’arim Church, Dieterich Buxtehude’s profound Membra Jesu Nostri, one of the central masterpieces of the North German Baroque, will be performed.

The cycle consists of seven cantatas and offers a meditative contemplation of the crucified Christ through a gradual focus on different parts of the body — from the feet to the face — combining liturgical texts with poetic verse drawn from the Latin tradition.

Buxtehude creates a musical world that is restrained yet emotionally charged, in which rich polyphony, intimate textures and clear melodic lines come together in an expression of profound and refined spirituality.

Performed by the Barrocada Ensemble, the Israeli Vocal Ensemble and soloists, under the direction of Yuval Ben Ozer, the work will come to life in the church’s unique acoustics, inviting the listener into an experience of inward reflection and quiet contemplation.
